Dataproducts

The goal of ESA is to produce precise global maps of soil moisture and ocean salinity. The resolution of the final salinity and soil moisture maps will not be alike due to the different averaging procedures data over land and ocean The desired accuracy of the data over the ocean is 0.1 psu with a spatial resolution of 200 x 200 km and a temporal resolution of 10 days. The intended accuracy over land is 0,035 m³/m³ volumetric water content and 0.2 kg/m² vegetation water content with a spatial resolution of 60 km and a temporal resolution of 3 days.

A complete description of the different data products is available at:

How to get data?
SMOS data will be made available through the ESA category-1 procedure, either through dedicated AOs or registration service online http://eoli.esa.int

SMOS calibration & validation data will be available via the SMOS Cal/Val portal: http://calvalportal.ceos.org/CalValPortal/welcome.do.

Near-real time products: contact mission management. Soil Moisture in situ data will be made available via the SMOS Soil Moisture Network Data Hosting under development at the University of Lisbon

ESA campaign data will be available via the campaign database http://earth.esa.int/campaigns and via the SMOS CalVal portal.

Calibrated brightness temperature data will be available in June, salinity data will be available in September, see http://www.esa.int/SPECIALS/smos/SEMD97U889G_0.html

In-situ data
